You may find singing children come to your door – they will be dressed as the three ‘kings’ and expect some sweets or fruit.

On this day, all Christian churches celebrate the wise men from the east who came to honour the newborn Christ. By now, most of the Netherlands has discarded the traditions of January 6th, but in Maastricht it seems we have doubled down on keeping them alive; there will be children singing, there will be a special bread at the bakeries and on January 7th you can see the eastern sages with their servants, animals and shepherds walking the city centre, prior to a celebration in Our Sweet Lady Basilica – see link:
